Check whether every part of your touch screen responds — on a phone, tablet, Chromebook or touch laptop. Draw with one or more fingers to see how many touches your screen recognises at once, or switch to the grid and swipe across every square to find dead zones where touches are not detected.

How to test your touch screen

  1. Open this page on the phone, tablet or touch laptop you want to test and tap "Full screen".
  2. In "Draw & multi-touch", draw with one finger, then put 2, 5 or 10 fingers down together.
  3. Switch to "Dead-zone grid" and swipe slowly over every square.
  4. Squares that stay grey after several swipes are areas where the screen does not respond.

What the results mean

Before buying a used phone or tablet

Dead zones are a common hidden problem on second-hand devices, especially after a screen replacement. Run the grid test in full screen and cover every square, including the corners and the area behind the keyboard, before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if my touch screen is working?

Open this page on the device, draw on the test area and swipe over every square in the grid. Areas that don't react are faulty.

How many touch points does my phone support?

Put several fingers on the screen at once — "Most at once" shows the number your screen detects.

What is a dead zone on a touch screen?

A part of the screen that does not respond to touch, often caused by damage, a bad repair or a faulty digitizer.

Does it test a stylus?

Yes. Pens are detected as "pen", and pressure is shown if your stylus and browser support it.
