A dead or stuck pixel is a tiny dot on your screen that stays black, white or one colour. This test fills your whole screen with solid colours so any bad pixel stands out immediately — perfect for checking a new monitor, laptop, TV or phone before the return period ends. It also includes a stuck pixel fixer.
How to check for dead pixels
- Clean the screen with a soft dry cloth so dust is not mistaken for a pixel.
- Click "Start dead pixel test" — the screen fills with black.
- Click (or press the arrow keys) to change colour: black, white, red, green, blue and more.
- Look over the whole screen on each colour. Press Esc to exit.
Dead pixel or stuck pixel?
- Dead pixel: always black. Most visible on the white screen. It usually cannot be repaired.
- Stuck pixel: always one colour (red, green, blue) or white. Most visible on black. It can sometimes be fixed.
- Hot pixel: always white, even on black.
- Dust or a scratch: moves or disappears when you clean the screen.
Trying to fix a stuck pixel
Click "Stuck pixel fixer", drag the flashing square over the stuck pixel and leave it running for 10–20 minutes. The fast colour changes can sometimes "wake up" a stuck sub-pixel. If it does not help after a few tries, contact the manufacturer — many have a dead pixel warranty policy.
Not working? Try this
- Fullscreen doesn't open: some browsers block fullscreen on phones — the test still fills the visible screen.
- Screen goes dark: your device may dim the display; move the mouse or tap to keep it on.
- Lines instead of dots: vertical or horizontal lines usually mean a cable or panel problem, not a pixel. Try another cable.
- Warranty: check the dead pixel policy of your brand and take a photo of the pixel on the white screen.
Frequently asked questions
How do I test my screen for dead pixels?
Start the test, go full screen and look at each solid colour. A dot that stays black, white or a different colour is a bad pixel.
Can a dead pixel be fixed?
Black dead pixels usually can't. Stuck coloured pixels can sometimes be fixed with the stuck pixel fixer.
Does it work on phones and TVs?
Yes. Open the page in the phone or smart-TV browser and start the test.
Is the stuck pixel fixer safe?
Yes for the screen, but it flashes quickly. Do not use it if you are sensitive to flashing lights.
