How to Convert HEIC to JPG – Open iPhone Photos Anywhere

You send photos from your iPhone to your computer — and Windows says it can’t open them. Or an online form rejects your photo because it’s a .HEIC file. Here’s what HEIC is and how to convert it to JPG in seconds.
What is HEIC?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. It keeps good quality in roughly half the space of a JPG — great for your phone’s storage, but not every device or website supports it:
| Where | Opens HEIC? |
|---|---|
| iPhone, iPad, Mac | Yes |
| Windows PCs | Often not, unless extra extensions are installed |
| Many websites and online forms | No – JPG required |
| Older Android apps | Sometimes not |
Convert HEIC to JPG online (free)
- Open HEIC to JPG.
- Choose up to 5 HEIC photos (or drag them in).
- Keep quality at 90%, or lower it for smaller files.
- Click Convert. The first photo can take a few seconds while the converter loads.
- Download each JPG or all of them as a ZIP.
Need lossless output for editing? Use HEIC to PNG.
Make your iPhone save JPG automatically
If you often send photos to forms or Windows PCs, change one setting:
- Open Settings → Camera → Formats.
- Choose Most Compatible.
New photos are saved as JPG from then on. (Existing photos stay HEIC.)
Also useful: when you share a photo by email or many messaging apps, the iPhone often converts it to JPG automatically.
Using HEIC photos in online forms
Most application forms need JPG under a certain size. The quickest path:
- Convert with HEIC to JPG, or go straight to Reduce Image Size in KB — it also accepts HEIC photos and saves JPG.
- Set the target size (e.g. 50 KB) and pixel size the form asks for.
